In a controversial move, as part of the Trump’s review of all humanitarian immigration parole programs, President Trump announced on March 6, 2025, that his administration would consider revoking temporary legal status of the hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian nationals currently in the United States, fleeing Russian aggression in their home country. This would reverse the Biden Administration’s efforts to welcome Ukranians to the United States through various programs and could mean removal proceedings for many. Reuters reported that “a move to revoke the Ukrainians’ status could come as soon as April…[sources] said the plans to revoke their status got underway before Trump publicly feuded with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.”
Currently, USCIS has stopped accepting new applications for Ukrainian parole. Separately, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) may be another option for some, although the program does face instability with the Trump Administration’s recent moves. However, USCIS has also paused many applications for TPS, Asylum, Green Card Applications, and other benefits for those who entered the U.S. with parole, so the ability to seek TPS as a Parolee is limited.
