Managing Attorney

Janet Forney is a Managing Attorney at Brown Immigration Law, where she provides strategic, client-centered guidance across a broad spectrum of nonimmigrant and immigrant visa matters. She works with clients in a variety of sectors, from financial services and biotech to construction, nonprofits, and faith-based organizations, understanding the importance of aligning immigration strategies with broader workforce and organizational goals. With a decade of experience as an immigration attorney, and more than 15 years of combined business and professional experience, Janet works closely with employers to develop practical, efficient solutions that support their business objectives and the people who drive their success.

Prior to practicing law, Janet spent several years at Massachusetts General Hospital supporting Exchange Visitors, foreign nationals, physicians, and researchers, gaining hands-on experience with nonimmigrant visa matters and PERM labor certification. That foundation in a complex, high-stakes healthcare environment continues to inform how Janet practices law today, favoring clear communication, careful planning, and solutions that address both organizational needs and individual goals. Janet also maintains an active religious worker immigration practice, helping churches, parochial schools, and faith-based organizations navigate visa pathways for clergy, educators, and mission-aligned staff.

Throughout her career, Janet has remained committed to building strong client relationships, believing that effective advocacy starts with listening. Through her involvement in a global networking group, she also draws on a trusted network of international tax, finance, business consultants, and global mobility professionals to help clients navigate their broader cross-border needs. By taking the time to understand each client’s circumstances and goals, she offers guidance that is both strategic and personal.

Outside of her legal practice, Janet adores spending time with family, especially her annual beach trip with her brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and their children to Edisto Beach, South Carolina, not far from her hometown of Batesburg-Leesville. Mornings there mean the smell of coffee brewing, her brother cooking bacon, and her sister-in-law serving up a pot of grits. She also loves traveling with her grandchildren and seeing the world through their eyes, whether that means baking cookies and banana nut bread together, playing pretend, or a game of croquet on the lawn. When she travels abroad, Janet prefers spending time with locals over sightseeing, finding that genuine connection is the best way to experience a new culture.
